"A Lemon Yellow note-pad is perfect! The colour of brilliance! Thank you..." X
I'm sick of this safety video. The music bores me and the announcers look like they've just walked off the set of the Stepford Wives or the Truman Show. (or Perfection Avenue, Kellyville?)
This song just came in to my mind - "I just wanna fly, put your arms around me baby, put your arms around me baby." I think it's by SugarRay. What kind of a band name is Sugar Ray anyway?
The best part of flying is the taking off and landing. When the overhead compartments start rattling vigorously and your ears get blocked, telling you you're being lifted up so fast, your body can't keep up with the change in pressure. It gets to me every time. Also the fact that most aeroplane accidents happen during take off and landing - "Are we gonna make it?? Are we gonna make it?? YESSSSSSSSSssssssssssss!!!!"
I think I've travelled so much that the novelty of flying has worn off. Wait till I have to work my ass off to buy myself a plane ticket, then I'll be more excited. How spoilt I am.. (but this trip is not for myself! I would have been happy to stay back. Does that count then?)
Oh look... Little fluffy clouds.
Faz said something during design yesterday that made me think "What a brilliant band name that would be!!" I just remembered what it was. 'Dirty Duna'. Somehow, I think my heart's not in Architecture...thinking about band names while someone is doing a perfectly serious presentation about perfectly valid issues and what not. Visual Arts and Music excites me so much more. Buildings just don't do it for me as much. All this time, I've faked it! (but don't most women anyway?)
I have a feeling all this won't make sense when this plane has landed and I proceed to re-reading it. Maybe I should try typing it all out as a blog entry, just for kicks.
Mmmm....why hello, you nice smelling tuna pastry.........

Dirty Doona as in peed-on blanket??
I can't wait for the next time I fly. Preliminary plans are for the 18th June - 23rd July... I've got it down packed! Zuji I hooray you!
And I mean, just because all of a sudden now Sugar Ray relates to a name doesn't necessarily make it any more appropriate as a band name. Unless there is a specific reason why they took that name from him... I really don't like those bands with names that're just picked out in random.
Ok, this is all my personal rant, I have no solid knowledge of this shit, feel free to retort.
P.S. I like Sugar Ray's stuff!
Well well, you have a point, but you're retorting something I didn't mean to say. I wanted to know why. And since you brought it up, why are they called the Rolling Stones? Why Hard-Ons? Why INXS? Was calling themselves Rolling Stones more significant than if they had called themselves Blazing Boulders? I wanted to know the reason behind plucking "Sugar" and "Ray" from "Sugar Ray Leonard". Perhaps it was the tribute, perhaps it was the words themselves. I was more perplexed by the undisclosed relevance of the name than by the medium of name-picking.
I guess what Martin might be trying to say is band names don't have to be relevant..the connotations and relevance of the somewhat random choice of words usually stem from what the band does and produces after their christening... A simple example would be... When you say 'The Beatles', you would naturally think John,Paul,George and Ringo as opposed to a bunch of insects. It's almost like patenting random phrases/words.
Let me give u an example of the process...(which i'm sure u've heard before). My brother's ex-band name was 'Noah's Omelette'. Random? Maybe... but the explanation behind it was On Noah's Ark, the only thing he would have had to eat were the eggs from the chickens. Omelettes. Noah's Omelette. It might be random, but I thought that was a really clever band name... And best of all, it was original and truly theirs.
I hope that helped. :)
But you know what...they usually have personal meanings. I was just thinking about The Bee Gees (Brothers Gibb = BG's = Bee Gees) and a few others...
Anyway I Googled it and stumbled upon this website... I think it'll answer a lot of your questions...
Everyone should check this out!!

Oh, whilst we're on the topic of omlettes and chicken eggs, I am reminded of a show I saw in Japan.
This guy, this poor guy, for a comedy show, was put in this confined space with a yard for a week. Now, the twist here is, he has to live with poultry (is that the right term?) all week. The only food he's allowed are their eggs. Now, it's not only chicken he had to live with, everyday the show introduced new birds to cohabit with him: emus, peacocks, flamingoes, ducks...all sorts of semi flying birds. I watched in dismay as he gulped down egg after egg, meal after meal... even huge emu eggs he had to use a hammer to crack open and an eagle egg. Plus he had to sleep with the noisy and smelly buggers. Terrible terrible for him, but uber entertaining for us!
Something to think about for Noah's ark...
Random is G O O D ..... My life would be nothing without randomness. But what is really random? In online poker are your pocket cards and community cards random cards? Or just based a fancy algorithm that's not really random? (I've never played btw, any fun?)
Dear Monkey,
Randomness is good yes. But being focused can be the key to lots of goodstuff as well. When we are talking about poker, for non-pros (like ourselves...who play no more than once a week...*eyes dodge to the top-left..*), randomness can be a death sentence. Imagine...hmmm, i think i'll go all-in...hmmm, i think i'll fold my pocket rockets. Or is that just called stupidity? Having said that, i heard it's good to vary your gameplay.
I don't like online poker. It involves credit cards or no money and they're both not as much fun as the real thing... ;)
Oh blah. Life's just a big game of randomness anyway, isn't it? We think we've got it all planned out and this random guy comes along and ruins everything. We humans are suckers for not admitting we thrive on randomness. The weather is renowned for its randomness, and yet we find patterns and cycles to predict it... Our thoughts are random, and yet we try to organise them by writing books and singing songs. Maybe it's because randomness doesn't have any value that we shun it so much. Simply because we can't get our heads around it because it's too.....random. Anyone out there know what I'm trying to say here?? Probably not... bah, don't worry, it's just another random statement....
Great site loved it alot, will come back and visit again.
